🖊 SMART INSULIN PENS

Medscape have announced that both the EchoPen 6 and NovoPen Echo smart insulin pens will be available on the NHS. The pens automatically record insulin dosing information about each injection.
It's not yet clear how to request these, but they are likely to be prescribed by GPs soon.

👣 FOOT ULCERS PUT PWD AT RISK OF HOSPITALISATION

A new study has concluded that people with diabetes who develop foot ulcers are at much greater risk for hospitalisation and death from chronic health conditions. This underlies the importance of keeping our feet healthy and having healthy foot habits!

MEDTECH IN RUSSIA & UKRAINE

Abbott have stated that Russia accounts for less than 2% of Abbott’s sales and Medtronic say that Russia and Ukraine represent less than 1% of 2021 sales.

CE MARK FOR DEXCOM G7 AWARDED

The much anticipated Dexcom G7 has now received a CE mark in Europe, meaning that it can be sold in the EU and UK. It's not yet on the market but it is expected to become available very soon, probably in the next couple of weeks.
In addition, the company stated that it "is also working closely with its insulin pump partners to integrate Dexcom G7 into current and future automated insulin delivery systems as quickly as possible."

LIBRE 3 NOW AVAILABLE IN UK
17th March 2022
Abbott have announced that Libre 3 - real-time CGM without the need to scan - is now available in the UK.
However, you won't be able to get in through a GP on regular prescription as it's not available as an upgrade. It's only though Diabetes Healthcare teams ie. Hospital Consultants as you'll need to meet the NICE criteria on the NHS Supply Chain Network (see criteria here).
It's not clear if Libre 3 will appear on the FreeStyle Libre website for self-funders as it's not currently listed there.

Ypsomed partners with CamDiab Ltd to drive on smartphone based adaptive automated insulin delivery (AID)

Ypsomed have partnered with CamDiab Ltd, the developer of CamAPS FX, an app to manage glucose levels via insulin pumps using an adaptive, hybrid closed-loop approach.

All Type 1s to get Flash or CGM tech

Today is the day! NICE has updated the guidance for CGM use in England and all type 1s get access. No other criteria! Freestyle Libre or other CGM for all regardless of postcode and in preference to finger prick testing etc.
Offer adults with type 1 diabetes a choice of real-time continuous glucose monitoring (rtCGM) or intermittently scanned continuous glucose monitoring (isCGM, commonly referred to as 'flash'), based on their individual preferences, needs, characteristics, and the functionality of the devices available. See box 1 for examples of factors to consider as part of this discussion.
