Hot on the heels of Dexcom's Stelo, Abbott have released their first over-the-counter CGM system, Lingo, available in the US - it's already in the UK. You may have seen the social media ads "Hello Lingo"!

What is Lingo?

Lingo is built on FreeStyle Libre technology, which is used by over 6 million people globally. If you're familiar with CGMs, you’ll know that the sensor provides real-time tracking of glucose levels. Abbott’s Lingo brings that same capability to anyone over the age of 18 who’s interested in improving their overall health and wellness—not just those managing diabetes.

According to Olivier Ropars, VP of Abbott's Lingo business,

“Glucose is a powerful signal of your body's unique response to food and lifestyle.”

That’s the big idea behind Lingo—it’s not just about tracking glucose levels, but translating that data into actionable insights that help you make smarter decisions about your health.

Features of Lingo include:

  • Real-time glucose graph: Glucose reactions are updated continuously on the app.
  • Lingo Count™: A unique metric translates glucose spikes into an easy-to-understand number.
  • Food and activity logging: Log meals and workouts to get deeper insights into how they impact glucose levels.
  • Personalised insights: The app provides tailored recommendations based on the food and exercise logged, helping build healthier habits over time.
  • Lingo challenges: Take part in challenges, earning badges by establishing new, healthy habits.

What are the costs?

Lingo is available in 3 different packages:

  • Learn (two weeks): Get a basic understanding of how your body responds to your daily food and exercise ($49).
  • Build (four weeks): Dive deeper into your metabolism and experiment with habits to improve your metabolic health ($89).
  • Transform (12 weeks): Track your progress over a longer period to create consistent routines and long-term health improvements ($249).
